Led by Dr. Sanjay Gupta, the CNN Fit Nation ‘Six Pack’ Team is visiting the National Training Center in Clermont, Florida to continue preparation for the Nautica Malibu Triathlon on September 8.
The group is hard at work to develop its swimming, biking and running at the NTC with Dr. Gupta and a professional training team. Employing the Center’s Endless Pool, each of the triathletes is focused on perfecting their swimming technique.
Inaugurated in 2010, CNN selects a handful of applicants from a large pool each year to take the challenge and train for the first triathlon of their life, providing the necessary gear and training to prepare them for the biggest race of their life.
April Burkey, one of the Fit Nation Triathlon Challenge coaches, encourages her team and others to devote time to each and every discipline of the triathlon.
Often, swimming is overlooked as triathletes skip the local gym because it is too crowded and too time-consuming to make the drive. An Endless Pool allows for training in the comfort of home—as well as relaxation afterwards.
With CNN in its 4th year of the Triathlon Training program that has changed lives and inspired countless others, the network has proven that people from all walks of life can achieve lifetime fitness through triathlon and swimming.
This year's group, which includes an elementary school teacher and a Biologist, is learning what other triathletes around the world have known for years—the Endless Pool is an ideal swim training device, as it allows for quick technique correction and a simulated open-water experience without the constant flip-turns of a traditional pool.
An underwater mirror offers instant feedback to the swimmer, while coaches have the access necessary to train beginner and high-level athletes, shaving valuable seconds off their swim times. Video analysis tools can take training to the next level, capturing video and still images above the pool and underwater.
In addition to assisting CNN’s Fit Nation program, Endless Pools has been featured on The Biggest Loser, helping participants to exercise safely in a buoyant, low-impact environment for a true swimming workout against the patented swim current.
From swimming to running, Endless Pools offers complete home fitness options, no matter the pool workout desired. Their variable speed underwater treadmill allows for walking, jogging and running through the resistance of water.
The National Training Center has used their Endless Pool since 2003 to provide stroke training and technique analysis for the USA Triathlon team, as well as swimmers and other premier athletes. NTC has also run next level biomechanical evaluation and therapy inside the pool.
Whether preparing for their first triathlon or their 20th, athletes find that they are able to make technical corrections in the Endless Pool as well as use it for daily swim training.
Endless Pools, established in 1988, has served over 20,000 customers in over 80 countries, and offers compact, customizable swimming pools for indoor or outdoor training. With a series of innovative, customizable products, athletes around the world have installed the pools for swimming, pool exercises, rehab and aquatic therapy use. The new Spa Series, featuring Exercise Spas and Swim Spas can also be installed at home for daily fitness and relaxation.
