Missy Franklin Transforms Her Backyard with an Elite Endless™ Pool

Gold medalist Missy Franklin Johnson, her husband, master swimmer and triathlete, Hayes Johnson, and their three-year-old daughter Caitlin settled into a beautiful home on ten acres in Nashville, Tennessee. But when it came to creating their ideal backyard pool, their outdoor space wasn’t as limitless as it seemed. With so much of the property covered in trees and rolling hills, a traditional pool wasn’t an easy option.

From Zero to Hero: How Hayes Designed the Perfect Backyard Pool

When it came to transforming their backyard, Missy gives Hayes credit for both the vision and execution of their pool project. “He did such a beautiful job figuring out exactly where this pool should go and what the landscaping around it should look like,” she shares.  

With limited flat space on their property, the couple needed to get creative. Hayes decided to install their Elite Endless Pool partially in-ground, fitting it into a sloped area behind their home to maximize their available space.

MODULAR CONSTRUCTION FOR A PERFECT FIT

For Missy and Hayes, the partially in-ground installation was the perfect fit for their sloped backyard. Standard features they chose for their pool included our high-quality patterned liner in Gray Marino and platinum return benches. They customized the design with local stone accents for the pool’s coping and skirting, ensuring the pool blended beautifully with their home’s aesthetic. SWIM-IN-PLACE TECHNOLOGY DELIVERS A “BIG SWIM” IN A SMALL SPACE

Equipped with a Hydrodrive™ Pro current, their pool provides adjustable resistance with a top pace of 0:51/100 yards, allowing both Missy and Hayes to tailor their workouts to their needs. The smooth, swim-in-place current delivers a big-pool experience in a compact footprint, enabling the couple to swim continuous laps without flip turns, and providing unlimited ways for Caitlin to splash, play, and have fun in the water.

Safety & Convenience Features Deliver Peace of Mind for Parents

While style and performance were key factors in choosing their Elite Endless Pool, safety and ease of use were just as important for Missy and Hayes. With a young daughter, another on the way, and frequent visits from friends and family, they wanted a pool that would meet everyone’s needs for security and accessibility.

A POOL COVER THAT DOES IT ALL

When it comes to keeping their pool warm, safe, and protected, the Automatic Retractable Security Cover (ARSC) checked every box. When not in use, the pool can be locked, and Hayes makes sure to keep the key hidden in the garage where Caitlin can’t reach it. Unlike traditional covers, the ARSC disappears beneath the deck when not in use, maintaining a clean, seamless look while eliminating the need for visible tracks. An above-deck version is also available for easy installation and access. In addition to keeping Caitlin safe, when used regularly, the cover helps minimize maintenance by keeping dust, leaves, and animals out of the pool, and conserves energy and water by retaining heat and limiting evaporation.

DESIGNED FOR SAFETY & ACCESSIBILITY

Missy and Hayes installed their Elite Endless Pool partially in-ground, an option that suited their terrain and allowed them to customize the pool wall to match their home. In addition, the raised pool wall provides a place for adults to sit and enjoy the pool while preventing their 3-year-old daughter, Caitlin, from accidentally slipping in.

To make entry and exit safer and more convenient for family members of all ages, they included an optional corner step. It can be installed in any corner of the pool, with options to add multiple steps or even custom stairs for specialized access.
